The Blind Brook Monitoring System has been established by the City of Rye as part of the Bing Brook Watershed flood mitigation initiative in an effort to reduce the risk of flooding along Blind Brook. The monitoring system consists of three monitoring locations referred to as: Upstream, Bowman Dam, and Downstream. Each location has been equipped with water elevation and rainfall monitoring sensors providing continuous and near-real-time data collection.
Rainfall intensity is the amount of rainfall that falls over a certain area during a specific time period, typically measured in inches per hour. This measurement is important for flood monitoring as it allows for an estimation of the amount of water that will flow into the Blind Brook and its tributaries.
The Blind Brook Monitoring System is a vital tool in the City of Rye's flood mitigation efforts. By continuously monitoring water surface elevation and rainfall intensity, the system provides important data to help predict and prevent flooding in the Blind Brook Watershed.
Construction of this project was made available via a grant from the New York State’s Office of Resilient Homes and Communities | Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery.
